NZ faces tough economic year: Lessons from 2024’s challenges

The end of the year brings an opportunity for reflection. We can look back on our personal and professional lives, our now-dated goals for the year, the things that went well and the things that didn’t.

We’ve had some great moments over the year. Most notably, the performances of our Olympics team in Paris provided one of the great highlights.

But elsewhere, it has been a very difficult year. Politically, we’ve started to make some progress in areas like international trade, foreign affairs and law and order. We have exciting new plans in place in areas like education and cancer medications. But elsewhere in government, as in business, it’s been a very difficult year, and one which, unless we take more aggressive action, seems likely to continue for another 12 months at least.
